Different ways of supporting us

We always welcome support for TEABAG. There are a number of ways of doing this:

General donations

Much the most useful are donations that the charity can apply to whatever is necessary. Training a student at the Vocational College costs around £125/year. Of this, the student or their family pay one third, the Ghana government pays one third, and TEABAG pays one third. This pays for the running costs of the college, the teachers’ salaries and examination fees. It does not cover capital projects. The charity provides school uniforms to around 80 children a year. (A school uniform is absolutely essential - without it, a child cannot go to school.) The uniforms are made in the Textiles Department at the Vocational College. However, the materials cost around £1,200 each year. A donation that we can spend on the schools or college as appropriate would be much appreciated. 100% of your donation will go directly to Ghana - the Trustees pay all UK costs and the cost of their travel. Making a donation The best way to support TEABAG is through a Standing Order. You can download a form to send to your bank here. You can also of course donate cash at one of our events, send us a cheque or transfer money directly to our bank account via BACS: If you do send us money directly, please fill in a Gift Aid form (download it here) and post or scan and email it to us. It makes your donation worth an additional 25% to us, and it allows you to claim tax relief on the donation - so we both win! Alternatively, click the link below to make a donation securely online, and allow us to claim Gift Aid automatically. Give As You Live With Give As You Live, when you shop online at over 4,000 top stores including M&S, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and John Lewis, they'll turn a percentage of your spend into free funds for TEABAG! Simply sign up at TEABAG’s Give As You Live web page, search for the retailer and start shopping. It's that simple! Alternatively, you can make a single or regular donation by clicking one of the buttons below: Give with Bing Microsoft has launched a new donation scheme that will donate to TEABAG just by searching with Bing! Join up and simply by searching on Bing you’ll earn points which are automatically donated to TEABAG. It costs nothing but just by using the internet you can help us. Find out more and sign up now - just click the heart… Special Projects We have an ongoing programme of improvement works, to improve the living conditions of the students and staff. We have recently completed a hostel for 80 girls, and we have just (July 2019) received a most generous donation to do the same for the boys. (There are some pictures on the college facilities web page.) Another generous donation is enabling us to make the college independent with its own sources of drinking water and electricity. This should be operational before the end of 2019. Capital projects are expensive, but we have in the past been fortunate to have generous donors who have made these possible. Capital projects are run from the UK, with money for materials and labour disbursed only as necessary and against results. As a result, the girls’ hostel was completed on time, and on budget - probably a first for Ghana! Visits to Mankoadze It is usually possible to visit the Vocational College, and see our operation for yourself. We can advise on travel arrangements and accommodation. If you are able to teach or help with capital projects, you will be able to make a real contribution during your visit. Donations in kind We are often offered books and other items to send to Ghana. Unfortunately, importing into Ghana is difficult (clearing Customs is expensive and time-consuming). We are working hard to find ways to solve this, but in the meantime, we are finding it difficult to accept donations in kind, unless it’s the kind of thing that we can take in a suitcase when we visit.
