The villages are about 1 ½ hours from Accra by car, along what is now a good road. (Only the last 7km to Mankoadze or Abrekum is along a bumpy dirt road.)
Ghana is almost due south of the UK, on the same time zone.
The villages are all part of the Central coastal zone. Mankoadze is the biggest and is on the coast. It used to be an important source of fish, but the stocks are very low now, so fishing is not as productive nor as good a source of income. Abrekum is a little further from the beach than Mankoadze and a much smaller community with a poorer road going to it. Onyadze and Gomoa Mprunem are about 4 miles inland and just off the main coastal road that goes from Accra to Takoradi.
